Flashbacks from Another Lifetime?
Andrei Becheru
Becheru’s speculation about the future of the planet is not only intriguingly introspective, but it is also temporally reversed. This is because, at the centre of his endeavours, one finds the prefix pre-: the future is not to be found in the ruins of the temporal now, but in the untouched state of a pre-historic horizon that survives in the collective imagination.
By reconstructing macro natural futures that never came into being—futures that existed prior to mankind’s devastating burden inflicted on the natural realm—Becheru shows to us how a paradisiacal, pre-exploitative world would have looked like. And, after all, it may be that only by knowing what we lost, we know what we have to fight for.
Andrei Becheru (b. 1984) graduated the Bucharest University of Arts and is a freelance photographer based in Bucharest, focusing on long-term projects at the intersection between documentary and fiction, making editorial, photo reportage, portraiture work for different publications, brands, NGOs.
